Briefly Talk About What Color Temperature And Brightness Are

Aug 15, 2021

Color temperature

Unit: absolute temperature (Kelvin, K)

The color temperature is expressed by the absolute temperature K, that is, when a standard black body (such as platinum) is heated to a certain degree, the color starts to change from red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo (blue-violet) and purple. Using this characteristic of light color change, when the light color of the light source is the same as the light color of the black body, we call the temperature of the black body the color temperature of the light source. When the color temperature is around 3000K, the light color is yellow. When the color temperature is above 5000K, the light color tends to blue. Lights of different color temperatures have different lighting and visual effects. Different color temperatures correspond to different colors of light, as shown in the figure below. Different wavelengths cause different color perceptions to the human eye, from red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo (blue-violet), and purple. The sensitivity of the eye varies greatly with wavelength.

For example, under good lighting conditions, the eye's sensitivity to 550 nm (yellow) light is 20 times that of red or blue light. This is also an important reason why most fog lights and street lights use yellow lights on the road. Color temperature is a measure of color temperature, not the brightness of the lamp. The color temperature of halogen lamps can range from 2300K to 7000K; the color temperature of HID lamps ranges from 4200K to over 8000K; the higher the color temperature of the lamp, the worse the penetration of fog and rain. Large manufacturers such as Philips only produce xenon lamps with a maximum color temperature of 6000K. The following is the performance of different color temperatures:

Light color and warm light effect

3000K yellow light, strong penetrating power

4200k white with yellow

5000K all white, the highest color temperature in European standard

6000K lamp, all white, light blue

6500k sun exposure

7000-8000k white belt blue

It is recommended that the color temperature of 6000K is just the color temperature at which the whitest light starts to turn slightly blue. Human eyes are easy to accept, not easy to fatigue, and improve safety
